It’s all about………

Perched atop the sixth step I have nothing more to add to this day.

That isn’t strictly true as it is only mid afternoon, but as far as my contractual obligation is concerned there are 65 minutes to go with no more tasks to be completed.

After a weekend spent in the sunshine it is always difficult to be stuck inside, thankfully the sun was elusively distant and save for a few brief taunting winks it hid behind the thick cloud cover. But just as I began to write this the clouds all blew eastward and away from our patch of sky.

Today there was no al fresco eating in the morning, neither was there a sunny lunch time nap where you wake up not knowing where you are or what day it is. For that brief moment all of your senses are at sea with no bearings, I love that feeling and the moment that soon passes as the realisation of being at work slowly returns.

There was a nap included in this day of course but it was indoors.

For now the gym visit is looking a little unlikely, the situation will be reassessed shortly with the arrival home, but from this viewpoint the terrace is looking a much better option.

Increasingly on commercials that bombard us from TV, Internet and radio we are left with the tag line “it’s all about…….” This changes, obviously, with each advertiser as they seek to get over the message that their particular product is the answer to all of our questions.

There are many answers to that question, they change with the passing of years as priorities shift from one thing to another. At this particular juncture of my existence the ability to function day to day in a reasoned and calm manner is a huge achievement.

It’s all about

  • You
  • Choice
  • Balance
  • The money
  • People
  • Kids
  • Peace
  • The bass!

It takes a lot of willpower to push out the deluge of voices piling on the pressure to perform in the multitude of ways that they decide is correct for us. Everyone has their own particular brand of betterment for us, some do it to sell you something and others out of genuine care for us. Deciphering the difference can be a minefield of confusion.

I find that the black and white certainties of my youth seem to be getting further and further away, those cast iron lines have softened with the advancing years to the extent that arguments are seldom engaged in anymore.

There will always certain things that are non negotiable in my thinking because they are the foundational bedrock of who I am as a person. What has changed is the need to convince everybody else round to my way of thinking, I am more than happy to explain to anyone who asks and do relish a good debate. However, the days of getting irate over such things are now long gone.

I do love meeting people who are passionate about things, these are the people who get things done and make a difference. It is good to hear and see the drive that comes from absolutely believing in a cause. I have been that person and hope to return there again at the correct time.

As for now, for me, it is all about peace.

Peace of mind, peace of heart and peace with my immediate world.

For you it will probably be all about something else depending at which stage of life you find yourself. Focus on that and don’t let the incessant voices distract.
